OSCAR KENT
Oscar Kent, fourth son of Charles E. and Carrie Kent, was born in Lucas county, Iowa, Oct. 16, 1892, and departed this life Oct. 17, 1955, at the age of 63 years and one day.
March 5, 1916, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Cochran. Five children were born to this union, Oliver E., Roy A., Harry O., Glenn D., and Keith E., all of Lucas county. There are 15 grandchildren.
In addition to his immediate family he is also survived by three brothers, Albert, William and Raymond Kent, all of Lucas county.
His mother, father and one brother, Harry, preceded him in death.
His entire life was spent on farms in Lucas county, and he united with the church at an early age. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and took an active part in the civic affairs of his community.
He lived an honorable life and had the respect and esteem of his many friends and neighbors. He was always willing to help his neighbors in time of distress and he will be greatly missed.
For several years he had not been in robust health due to a heart ailment, however, he had not been confined to his bed and it was not until Oct. 15, when he entered the Des Moines General hospital that his condition became critical.
Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. A. E. Beals of Russell, were held Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1955, at the Presbyterian church at Lucas with Masonic rites at the graveside. His five sons and younger brother, Raymond, acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
