- Mary Ella, daughter of George A. and Clara Schnebly Cochran, was born in Clarke County, Iowa, on February 28, 1893, and departed this life after a short illness at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola on September 2, 1968, at the age of 75 years, six months and five days.
At an early age she was baptized in the Christian Church at Woodburn and became a member.
Most of her life was spent in Lucas County where she attended the Spring Hill rural school and Normal Training School in Chariton, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught in the rural schools of Lucas County for a number of years.
On March 5, 1916, she was united in marriage to Oscar Kent, who preceded her in death on October 17, 1955. To this union were born five sons, all of whom survive.
On December 7, 1967, she was married to Clarence Reed of Garden Grove, where she made her home until the time of her death.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband, Oscar, one grandson, Marvin, and her brother, Roy Cochran.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Clarence of Garden Grove, her five sons, Oliver, Roy, Harry and Keith of Lucas and Glenn of Woodburn; five daughters-in-law, 22 grandhcildren; one great-granddaughter; four step-children: Ralph of Wahoo, Nebr., Raymond of Osceola, Myrtle of Jackson, Minn., and Willis of Fremont, Nebr.; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was always a helpful companion, a loving mother and grandmother, and a good friend to all. Everyone who knew her loved her and she always gave willingly of her time for others. She will be sadly missed by all.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. William D. Osick at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 6, 1968, at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was at the Rose Hill Cemetery near Lucas.
