      Mildred Thoreson, 84, Grand Marais, died Sunday June 29, 2014 at Cook County North Shore Hospital.
      She was born on Jan. 23, 1930 in St. Louis County River District to George and Lilean (Waananen) Potter.
      Millie grew up on the Iron Range and the North Shore of Lake Superior, attending schools in Hovland and Grand Marais. She was a self taught pianist, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, accordion, and violin. She also enjoyed traveling with Edwin in the United States, South America, Africa, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
      Mildred was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir, played the organ, played handbells, was church historian, and took part in the quilting group. She was also a member of the American Cancer Society, the Garden Club, Housing and Redevelopment Authority, Symphonian Club, the Historical Society, and the government study, Operation Skywatch, summer of 1952.
      Mildred was preceded in death by her husband Edwin E. Thoreson; and a daughter, Wendy W. Yecoshenko; brother, Merle Potter; and dear friend Vic Dunder.
      She is survived by her daughter, Randi (Rick) Nelson; three grandsons, Jason (Lori) Yecoshenko, Peter Yecoshenko, and Esten Nelson; great-grandchildren, Fayth, Kristianna, and Brock Yecoshenko, Ashtyn and Brooklyn Nelson; sisters, Pat Holte, Marge Nelson, and Honey Eliasen; and many nieces and nephews.
      VISITATION: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service on Thursday July 3, 2014 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Hovland. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the North Shore Health Care Foundation.
