MRS. HANNAH KENT CROSTON
Mrs. Hannah Croston passed away at her home in Lucas, Iowa, on Thursday, Sept. 21, 1922, at 12:30 p.m., after an extended illness. Although death was not unexpected, it brought sadness to the hearts of all who knew her, for she was greatly beloved by all.
Hannah Wherrett was born on January 1, 1842 at Stonehouse, Glouscestershire, England, and at the time of her demise was 80 years, 8 months and 20 days old.
She was united in marriage to William Kent at Berea, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, September 9, 1860. Mr. Kent passed away on April 24, 1906. Two sons blessed this union, Charles E. and John W. There are five grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She came to the United States with her parents when she was 12 years of age and they settled in Berea, Ohio. After her marriage she lived at Cleveland, Ohio and Chicago, Illinois, before she and her family came in March, 1869, and settled on a farm three and one-half miles west of Lucas.
She was a member of the Latter Day Saints church for twenty-five years or more.
She was married to Dr. Thomas Croston on January 26, 1919, who preceded her to the other shore just 40 days ago.
Mrs. Croston came of a large family. She was a woman of splendid ability, sympathetic and kind, especially to the poor and suffering. Wm. Newquist, of Chillicothe, Iowa, attended the funeral, a living monument of Mrs. Croston's noble work of charity. While living at the Kent home, newly arrived from Sweden, he was shot and received a whole charge of shots in his side. By Mrs. Croston's faithful watch, care and ministrations, he recovered.
Funeral services were held at the Saints church at Lucas, on September 22. Elder E. B. Morgan preached the sermon and John T. Evans was in charge of the service. Thos. Hopkins and John T. Evans sang a duet, "Some Day" which was most effective. The cortege accompanied the remains to Rose Hill cemetery, where the body was placed by the side of Wm. Kent, her first husband
