CHARLES E. KENT
Charles Ellsworth Kent, son of William and Hannah Kent, was born Sept. 7, 1861, at Salem, Ohio. He departed this life March 5, 1941, at his home west of Lucas, Iowa, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 26 days.
He came with his parents to Lucas county, Iowa, at the age of 9 years and had lived continuously on the same farm until his death.
He was married to Carrie C. Hawkins on June 29, 1882, who passed away April 3, 1935. They were true and loving companions for fifty-two years.
To this union were born five sons, one of whom, Harry, preceded him in death at the age of two years and two months. Those surviving are Albert, William, Oscar and Raymond Kent, all of Lucas, and all of whom were with him during his last illness.
Besides his children he is survived by twenty-three grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, John W. Kent, of Chariton, and one niece, Mrs. Ethel Wood, of Williamson.
During his long residence of 70 years in Lucas county he has won a large circle of friends and was very highly esteemed by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed by his loved ones and countless friends and neighbors.
He united with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on October 20, 1914, and remained faithful to his Christian profession until the end. He was a member of the K. of P. order and a member of the Paul Revere Masonic Lodge, No. 630 of Lucas.
Funeral services were held at the L.D.S. church in Lucas on Friday, March 7, at 2 o'clock, with Elder Jake Cackler of Chariton in charge, assisted by J. W. Talbot. The Masonic order rendered services at the grave in the Rose Hill cemetery.
