An account of the death of Anthony Mills:
Some members of the Mills Hammons family had killed a bear. Several brothers, sisters, in-laws had met to have a feast. The men had prepared the bear for cooking and the women were doing the cooking for the feast. Meantime, the men were trying out a new rifle at a spot. Anthomy went to replace the spot and the rifle was accidently fired by a brother of Lucretia, Anthony's wife, and Anthony was struck by the bullet and died. It was said no bear was eaten that day.
