    • Caleb O'Dell was born in 1781 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, the son of Isaac and Abigail (Maxwell) O'Dell. (Note some sources indicate Abigail's last name may have been Mansfoeld.) He married Rachel Clevenger about 1795 in Tennessee. They had 12 known children.

      The following is extracted from portions of "The Cabin In The Middle Of The Excelsior Springs Golf Course Clubhouse by the Missouri Historical Company:

      In 1819, Caleb and his family along with his father Isaac and two of his brothers left Cocke County, Tennessee to settle in Missouri territory. The men constructed their own boat and floated down the Big Pigeon River, the French Broad River, the Tennessee River and the Ohio River. They went upstream n the Mississippi River to Old Franklin. From there, they traveled across country to Ray County.
